‘Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.’

1 Corinthians 1:18  ‘For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate’’

Matthew 28:20  ‘I am with you always, even to the end of the age‘

If there is a time in history that we need to cling to the cross of our salvation it is this time, as it seems to many that nothing makes sense in the world we live in; the more we try to make things right, the more we disagree with each other, and what we don’t want we end up with. The words of Jesus say that in the last days there will be ‘bewilderment of nations’. So cling to the cross of Jesus; the cross that has always been the power of God for salvation of mankind. This cross has been a problem to the world and the world is in so need of the cross. It is time to humble ourselves before God and turn away from our own self-righteousness before God, and more of clinging to that old rugged cross that will free us from our fears; free us from ourselves; free us from the rejection of the mercies of God. This cross has been made for you and for me; this cross is God’s ultimate grace towards us, so that no one needs to perish and to live in fear and bewilderment. This cross is God’s glory because He loved us. He died so that we may live.

Key Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 2:24-26 - ‘If one part suffers, every part suffers with it’

John 17 20-26 – ‘My prayer is not for them alone, I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.’

Ephesians 1 18-23, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Proverbs 16: 3, Luke 11 and Matthew 14 22-33 focus on Jesus not on the water.
